Featured Dog Of The Week: Want a Belgian Malinois? Here is what you need to know

November 20th, 2009 | by Sweetie The Papillion

Belgian Malinois are very bright and obedient with major territorial instincts. This breed is characteristically very healthy with no significant health concerns. They live for about 14 years and grow to 65 lbs. They were named after the Belgian city Malines and are generally used in the military for their strong, athletic and powerful size.

They are one of four variations of sheep dogs; the others being Belgian Tervuren, Belgian Groenendael, and Belgian Laekenois. Dog owners considering this breed should be prepared to train them properly at a young age and constantly challenge them with games and tasks.

I did post a controversial video that is hard to watch of the Baltimore Police Department training a Belgian Malinois.
