National Dog Day

Today marks National Dog Day when dog lovers and dog owners can cherish their dog’s unconditional love. Stop by a local dog boutique store to reward your pup with a new chew toy.

Please don’t buy your next pet, instead visit a dog shelter. Nearly 4 million healthy dogs are euthanized each year because of over-population in shelters and limited financial resources. If you can’t adopt a dog right now, then stop by your local shelter and donate your time. Volunteering is an excellent way to lend a helping hand in walking homeless dogs.

The Question Of Dogs & The Legal System

As anyone who works in the doggie industry knows, there is no limit to how valuable a furry friend can be to his owner. However, when it comes to a dog’s value in the eyes of the United States Justice System, the answer is less clear. Of course, when it comes to concrete issues written into law, such as animal abuse and the protection of species, there is far less room for the public to debate right from wrong, but it is in the cracks, the situations not covered by explicit laws, that the more difficult questions reside. It should be noted that this article is not intended as a diatribe against any stance on the issue, simply a discussion of the issue itself.

Pets In The Classroom

August 24th, 2010 | by Sweetie The Papillon

The Pet Care Trust hopes to cultivate young students to enjoy small animals by bringing them into the classroom this Fall. With many kids glued to their iPods and PSP, “Pets In The Classroom” program hopes to inspire & expose kids to pets at a young age. Teachers can pick different types of pets (reptiles, cats, dogs, lizards) to interact with students. By connecting with different kids of pets, the program hopes students learn about various habitats these animals came from. For more info, please contact The Pets In Classroom Program.

Too Hot To Play? No Way!

If the muggy humid weather has your dog home-bound by the AC, avoid boredom with some simple indoor doggie tricks.

We all played hide-and-seek as kids, well, dogs love it too! Let your dog chase you around the sofa & hide behind some furniture. Instead of giving a bowl of kibble, hide a few around the house or in stuff-able toys (like rubber kongs); your dog will hunt for her next meal.

If your dog loves to fetch, toss a ball or wobbly toy down the hallway. However be considerate of your fellow neighbors below or on either side of you if you live in an apartment.

Sometimes simple things like tug-of-war can bring joy to your dog’s heart. If you’re off to work during muggy weather, consider enrolling your pooch in doggie day care where she’ll meet lots of other pups.

Contact your local mall to see if leashed dogs are allowed to shop. You may not need to buy anything, but it’s a great place to stretch your paws and stay cool.

All dogs need mental stimulation in addition to exercise. Let us know if you have other ideas to reduce dull moments for your dog during the heat wave. Life’s short, so enjoy your pup’s company by hanging out with her on the floor and give her lots of belly rubs.

Every year, certain dogs being trained as seeing-eye dogs for the blind have to be dropped from the program for being too gentle and controlled. Rather than entirely dropping them from training after months of work however, Guiding Eyes For The Blind has begun refocusing these pooches to become companions for children with autism, run through their new initiative “Heeling Autism.”

New Dog Licenses For New York State Doggies

August 9th, 2010 | by Sweetie The Papillon

Starting January 2011, The New York State Department Of Agriculture & Markets won’t be handling the licensing for dogs. The license renewals and up keeping of databases will save the New York State over $300,000. However don’t think your county will do away with dog licenses. As dog owners, you will still need to register your dog, instead the local municipalities will start issuing dog licenses instead.

Doggie Ice Cream

August 3rd, 2010 | by Sweetie The Papillon

While state-side dogs are panting in this summer’s heat, British dogs are wagging their tails as they order “Dog Eat Hog World” and “Canine Cookie Crunch” from a specialized ice cream truck in London’s Regents Park. Both doggie flavors cost under a pound and the proceeds help benefit the Berkshire Search & Rescue Dogs. We’re hoping K99 will swing by USA soon so all dogs can enjoy biscuit ice cream.

The goggles – they do nothing!

August 2nd, 2010 | by Sweetie The Papillon
Bikers use them to go at high speed without dust and wind irritation, swimmers use them to see underwater, chemists and woodworkers avoid flying particles or splashing chemicals, and alpine explorers use them to combat snowblindness.
But in the case of these pups, the goggles – they do nothing!

Bikers use them to go at high speed without dust and wind irritation, swimmers use them to see underwater, chemists and woodworkers use them to avoid flying particles or splashing chemicals, and alpine explorers use them to combat snowblindness.

But in the case of these pups, besides increasing their adorability quotient, the goggles – they do nothing!
