Otherwise known as “big ferocious dog” in Nepali, the Tibetan Mastiff was traditionally a guard dog of flocks, monasteries and palaces in nomadic cultures of Central Asia.
These giant guardian dogs are prone to hip dysplasia, thyroid problems and skin conditions. Even though they are a large breed, their life expectancy is over a dozen years. If you would like more info on these strong yet noble dogs, contact the American Tibetan Mastiff Association.
