An interesting dilemma for residents and dog-owners has come up in the City Of Elgin: local officials are proposing city ordinance be passed that all pit bulls be labeled “dangerous” dogs.

If this is passed an owner of a pit bull will be required to have a $500k insurance policy, install a 6′ high fence around the perimeter of their yard, spay or neuter their pit bull, and require that their dog wear a muzzle when out walking.

For some you may think this isn’t too much to ask for a “dangerous” breed, however many subdivisions in the City Of Elgin do not allow 6′ fences and most insurance companies will not insure the breed. Send us your comments on this … do you think the community near Chicago deserves restrictions on pit bulls in order to protect its citizens or are the city officials effectively banning pit bulls?
