Out of a drain of creativity, I decided to search “interesting dog news” on Google to see what would come up. Low and behold, this picture was in the first link :

The caption above this scanned newspaper clipping said that this dog, aptly named Hercules, was the “Biggest Dog in the World” in 2001 at 282lb. Aside from the owner being noticeable happier than his dog, Hercules looks so unintimidating that Goofy could give him a run for his money.

However, after doing some more research on English Mastiffs, I found out that Hercules is in fact not even the “Biggest Dog in the World”. In 1989, an English Mastiff named Zorba weighed in at over a whopping 342 pounds! Just LOOOOK at that dog. It is literally twice the mass of that women.

Then, I got thinking–Zorba looks a lot like The Beast from “The Sandlot“. Ironically, it turns out that The Beast was an English Mastiff named Hercules. However, I unsuccessful tried to trace it back to Unofficial “Biggest Dog in the World” of the same name, which I mentioned earlier. SOOOO are there any “top dog” researchers out there who are up to the challenge of answering that question???

It’s funny how my simple search led me down this path.
