Dog Emergencies On The Trails

If your summer plans take you and your pooch North, consider hiking Acadia National Park in Maine. Leashed dogs are allowed to explore over 100 trail miles – which means pack some water and yummy doggie treats.
For off leash activities, Little Long Pond near Seal Harbor permits dogs to explore off leash & swim in the pond. From September 15th through May 15th, leashed dogs can enjoy the fresh crisp air at Sand Beach.
After miles of hiking, rest your paws at one of these dog-friendly restaurants, where leashed dogs are allowed at outdoor tables:

Whether you’re heading to the beach or the trails during the hot summer days, consider your pup’s comfort. Common sense reminds you to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day. Try hiking in the shade instead of the sun’s direct path.
If you’re lounging at the beach or pool, be sure to place your pooch under an umbrella to avoid her getting sunburned.
Summer concerts can be popular dog-friendly venues, though be aware of any pesticides on the lawn. Noisy crowds can stress out any dog, so check in with your dog & evaluate her temperament.
Regardless what your summer activities may be with your dog, please carry plenty of water and a water bowl and allow for many mini-rest stops. If your best friends does overheat, seek the shade, apply cold towels along her body and get to the vet immediately.

It’s Memorial Weekend – the official start to summer! Grab the leash and head outdoors for plenty of exciting activity for both the mind and body. Take an extra long walk at a nearby dog-friendly park or beach. And while you’re there, bond with your dog by playing fetch. With any outdoor activity with your dog, be sure to “check-in” with her especially on humid summer days. Try to seek shade for mini-breaks and provide ample water. Hello Fido-Friends!
Summer is here and that means lots of trips to the park. Mom got this goofy idea on Sunday to put Sweetie & I in a pink stroller to go to Stuyvesant Park. I tried to hide behind Sweetie the whole way there. Actually I wasn’t too embarrassed once I noticed other dogs walking by panting and feeling uncomfortable from the heat. Come to think of it my sis & I were stylin’ in this stroller. We were comfy under the shade of the stroller’s visor with a nice breeze on us. (more…)
