If you’re like Josie – my 2.5 lb papillon sister – dog parks can be a bit overwhelming to say the least. Regardless of your dog’s size or temperament, taking her to the local dog park can be either a fun adventure or lead to traumatic situation. To be sure that all off-leash activity is safe and playful, here is a simple list that will keep all tails wagging when the gate opens:

  • Find a fenced dog run that separates large breeds from the little guys. Usually the cut off is 25 – 30 lbs, but I’ve seen a feisty rat terrier chasing an Australian Cattle Dog so think about your dog’s personality before entering.
